Herrick Discussion
I wanted to see what everybody out there thinks of Robert Herrick. I feel as if, since he wrote at the very end of the Renaissance, he lacked the poetic identity of the time. Although stylistically unique, I found his works to be sexually perverted and childish. Many poets include sexual references in their works, but Herrick's seems to make it too obvious. Granted, many of his more concise works posses some literary value, but he utilizes metaphors which were even exhausted around his time. The most amusing thing about his poetry, to me at least, is that he was a clergyman who spoke more perversely than any other poet of his era. I honestly feel very sorry for his altar boys!
